October events in the Marche
October is the time for festivals and town celebrations throughout Italy, and the Marche is no exception, with a long series of events not to be missed, ideal for all those who want to please their palate and, at the same time, discover local uses and traditions. Among the events to write down in your notebook there is, for example, the National Festival of White Truffle in Acqualagna, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, which starts on the 25th October until 31st: it is a unique occasion to get to know the most precious tuber. The Palatartufo in Acqualagna will welcome the estimated 200.000 spectators, who have the chance to admire and be entranced by the exceptional landscape of the Statal Natural Reserve of the Furlo, surrounding this delightful village with a population of not even 5000 people.
Truffle will also be protagonist of another initiative, the National Exhibition of refined White Truffle of the Marches, from 10th October till 1st November in Sant’Angelo in Vado: an event that has taken place since 1964 in the very heart of the town where visitors have the chance, among other things, of purchasing exquisite products made by local artisans. An interesting occasion, especially if you consider that in Sant’Angelo in Vado is located the most important Italian research centre for the application and study of truffle cultivation techniques. Pergola instead hosts on the 4th, 11th and 18th of October the 20th edition of the National Fair of refined White Truffle: therefore, the tuber that the whole world envies us for will be at the heart of the event, where guests can appreciate not only the truffle itself, recognized as “Pergola’s gold”, but also the Gilt Bronzes, that is the only gilt bronze group in the world. Exhibitors with the best brands of products line up for more than two kilometres, reaching the House of Truffle.
And if someone wants to change taste, we must mention the Grape Festival in Cupramontana, the most ancient grape festival of the whole region, taking place in Cupramontana, province of Ancona, in a very suggestive territory, very rich in vineyards. The whole town sits on a hill of Vallesina and with its offer of wines, grapes and local dishes, the festival promises a lot of satisfaction. Between all the stands, the programme also includes the Palio of Verdicchio Wine, a competition of grape stomping, as well as an appointment not to be missed, the floats parade.
Moreover, the Sibillini In Pink are worth mentioning, a meeting aimed at promoting and protecting the Tasty Pink Apple of the Sibillini mountains, a Slow Food presidium, and the Festival of Lacrima Wine and Truffle of Acqualagna, taking place in Morro d’Alba on the 17th and 18th of October. And that is not all, because there is also Biosalus – the National Festival of Organic and Holistic Wellbeing – in the Unesco in the city of Urbino. In Arcevia, on every Sunday in October there is “ Una domenica andando per Primi”, an unmissable event unfolding among the town’s nine castles. Finally, between the 16th and the 18th of October, the Leguminaria in Appignano is an event not to be missed, as for three days it is possible to discover – or rediscover, in some cases – chickpeas and beans, but above all lentils with sausages, served in handmade terracotta plates.
